Grit, Gratitude, and Goals – Keara’s Comeback Story

For Keara, a torn ACL during a soccer game could have marked the end of a dream. But instead of giving up, she committed to her recovery process with grit, gratitude, and the support of determination. She opens up about the challenges she faced, the mindset that helped her push through, and how she ultimately achieved her goal of playing Division I college soccer.

What was your injury? How did you injure yourself?

I tore my ACL in a high school soccer game my sophomore year.

What was the most challenging aspect to your recovery?

The most challenging part at the beginning was sitting on the sidelines watching my teammates play. When I got back on the field, it was hard to find the confidence I had in myself prior to my injury.

What did you learn from your experience being injured?

I learned to not take things for granted whether it’s simply bending your knee, kicking a ball, or running. I’m so much more grateful for what my body can do.

What did you enjoy most about PT at OPTI?

I always looked forward to PT because of the people there. Katie and Ally were so supportive and motivating. Throughout my recovery, they built confidence in me mentally and physically. Their soccer background was also super helpful. I loved everything about OPTI and would recommend them to anybody!!!

What advice would you give someone that is recovering from an injury?

Surround yourself with positive people! Also, keep your end goal in mind…focus on that when things get hard.

What have you accomplished since coming back from your injury?

Although I got hurt during prime recruiting time for soccer, I still achieved my goal of playing division 1 college soccer. I play at Morehead State University in Kentucky!
