Dancing Through Rehab – An OPTI Comeback Story

When Abby Moore first came into Omaha Physical Therapy Institute (OPTI) in 2017, she definitely was not dancing.  In fact, she was on crutches and nursing a recently reconstructed anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee.  She knew that her injury was going to take a lot of physical and mental strength to overcome, but she was ready to take on the challenge.

After many months of physical therapy along with participation in OPTI’s Performance Program, Abby is back dancing better than ever!  In 2018, she shared her story and her insight on overcoming a major injury!  See her story below!

What high school do you go to?
I am a senior at V.J. and Angela Skutt Catholic High School.

What activities or sports do you participate in?

I have been on dance team all four years of high school, along with being in HOSA, student council, prevention council, NHS, and being an EMHC. I go to The Dance Lab at the Rose.

What was your injury and how did it happen?

I tore my left ACL while doing a calypso leap at dance.

What was the most challenging aspect to your recovery?

The most challenging part of my recovery was having to be patient and not rush things. It was also hard to be present at every practice, but not be able to fully participate with my team.

What did you learn from your experience with your injury?

I learned how to persevere through challenges and to not give up when things get hard.

What did you enjoy most about your time at Omaha Physical Therapy Institute?

My favorite part about OPTI is the relationships that I formed with my physical therapist and the other staff and patients that I met there.

What advice would you give someone going through injury?

My advice to someone recovering from an injury is to have patience and remember to do your workouts outside of therapy.

What have you accomplished since overcoming your injury?

Since coming back from my injury, my Skutt Dance Team has placed first in both Class B Jazz and Pom at the UNO Competition and second in both small Varsity Jazz and Pom at UDA Regionals.

Great job Abby!  You were an awesome patient and your motivation to get back to doing the things that you love was inspirational!  Great Comeback!
