Win the Day

Workouts can be very tough, but sometimes getting yourself to do the workout can be even tougher! There are many ways a person can be healthy and stay healthy, so we have to remember there is more than one “right way” to a have fit lifestyle. I’ll be the first to admit I do not go for a run when I’m stressed and I’ve certainly never experienced the “runner’s high” firsthand…. But hey, I’ve never liked to run and that’s okay!

The thing I have found most helpful in my personal journey to finding a routine that works for me and to approach each day as a new start. What I mean by that is I try to “win” as many situations in my day as I can… we have choices in the opportunities that arise in our day and I try to challenge myself to “win” more than I “lose”. For example, I wake up and have a good breakfast (Yay! Win for me!) and then a patient brings in delicious homemade cinnamon rolls and I have two of them (Oops, not so much a win), but I then have a great lunch and decide to go for a long walk at night instead of go home and sit on the couch later in my day to watch Wheel of Fortune (I’d like to solve the puzzle: I WON THE DAY).

Most times, living a healthy lifestyle is about all of the little choices we make throughout our day that add up to big results over time. Remember to keep things in perspective and try to approach each day trying to “win” the day. Sometimes we lose a few here and there, but that’s okay because there’s always the next day where you can challenge yourself to do better!

If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you!
