One Step at a Time – Sophie’s ACL Jour-KNEE
Sophie knows first-hand the challenges an ACL injury can come with. After tearing her ACL in basketball, she had to have surgery and has started her Jour-KNEE back to doing the things that she loves! Her motivated personality and commitment to her rehabilitation will pave the way for her achieving her goals!
How did you injure yourself?
“I was playing basketball and when I went to get a loose ball, my knee collided with another girl’s knee, bringing it in the other direction.”
What are some of the challenges you have faced so far with your recovery?
“Not being able to do the normal activities I am used to like running, jumping, walking, bending my knee, not being able to sit normally. And, just dealing with pain.”
What has been a positive component to your recovery?
“I have gotten a mental and physical break from the sports I do. I have met new people during PT and at school. I have also found an interest in physical therapy.”
What are your goals?
“My goals are to come back stronger than I was before, to focus more on my mental and physical health, and just to be able to run track!”
What’s advice you would give someone that just found out they tore their ACL and have to have surgery?
“Trust the process, it is worth it. But, just take your time and don’t rush into things. Because if you do, you can hurt yourself again.”
