Dry Needling is Not As Effective As You Think
Trigger Point Dry Needling has been used for many years within the physical therapy and chiropractic professions…but is it all it’s cracked up to be?
In a systematic review and meta-analysis published in the Journal of Orthopedics and Sports Physical Therapy in 2017 titled, “The Effectiveness of Trigger Point Dry Needling for Musculoskeletal Conditions by Physical Therapists: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis,” researchers found the following:
1. NO difference in functional outcomes when compared to other physical therapy treatments that were less invasive and less expensive
2. And there was LOW QUALITY EVIDENCE that suggest that dry needling provided superior functional outcomes when compared to SHAM needling or NO treatment at all!
