Athletic Training Outreach Coordinator

After suffering a season ending ankle fracture and sprain his junior year in high school, Matt became determined to return in time to play soccer his senior year. This determination and exposure to the intricacies of physical therapy kindled a passion to assess and rehabilitate athletic injuries that led Matt to pursue a career as a certified athletic trainer.

Matt’s is OPTI’s Athletic Training Outreach Coordinator. He assists with organizing and coordinating medical coverage at local soccer tournaments and events.

Matt has worked extensively with soccer throughout his career and currently is in a pool of athletic trainers who travel with and provide care for the United States Youth Soccer Region II Olympic Development Program. Matt has traveled overseas with them to Costa Rica multiple times and also has international travel experience with collegiate teams, including trips to Greece and the UK. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and has a certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Performance Enhancement Specialist.

  • Graduated with Honors with a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training from Salisbury University (Maryland) in 2002
  • Completed 1 year internship at the College of William and Mary
  • Completed a 2 year graduate assistant position with West Virginia University Athletic Training Department
  • Received a Master’s of Science in Athletic Training in 2005 from West Virginia University
  • Worked 3 years as the Creighton University Men’s Soccer and Baseball Athletic Trainer
  • Medical coordinator for the College World Series during his time at Creighton University

Matt and his family moved back to Omaha in 2015 after his wife completed her medical residency in Missouri. Matt’s wife, Maegan, is a pediatric orthopedist at Children’s Hospital. Matt has competed in a number of endurance events including marathons and road cycling century rides.

Fun fact:  When Matt is not working or chasing his kids, Landon, Jackson, and Ashlyn around, you might be able to find him in the kitchen as he is a very talented cook!
